The last two months have been amongst the most challenging I can remember and this was reflected in our need to cancel one workshop recently and even to not making the effort to promote the one before that, on Mega Knitting.  Thank you all for your understanding when we had to cancel the creative spinning workshop at the last minute.  Lynne and I had been up all night with Head of the Llama Herd ‘TomBurke’ and when he drew his last breath around 6am on the Saturday morning, we were both completely wrung out.  Perhaps we’re too soppy when it comes to animals, but TomBurke was extraordinary.  He was our first llama and what an amazing character he turned out to be; not the aggressive and unmanageable creature we were informed that he was, but an old and caring soul with many tales to tell.  Watching him go was like losing a close family member and ….well, I think you understand why Lynne wasn’t up to spinning that morning!

The Creative Spinning workshop, is being rescheduled for later this month and I’m certain we’ll find a way to make it up to all of you who we let down, but the workshops go on and Saturday 13th October is the next on the list and this one’s going to be fun!

Fibre Dyeing & Soap Felting; that’s the theme for day.  It’s a bit of a double deal actually.  Lynne wanted to make sure participants would go away from the workshop with everything they needed to know in order to make some of these novel soaps to give away as

Christmas gifts.  She will be showing you how to transform plain fibre into delightful, marbled colourways and then felt the fibre onto a bar of soap.

Why on Earth would you want to felt a bar of soap?  Certainly, that’s the question that creased my brow when I first heard of the idea.  It didn’t take me long though, to become a devotee.  It scrubs grubby hands like mine and it exfoliates, which some people find desirable.  Personally, I find that working in the bush, fencing and humping bales of hay removes more than enough skin for my liking.  The felted block of soap also lathers perfectly and is instantly useable, much like liquid soap, and since the felted pouch shrinks along with the diminishing bar, you don’t end up with a dirty-coloured, soggy or crumbly wafer near the end of its life.  Neat!

Click Here for more details of the workshop or to book your places.  Once again, it’s something for the whole family, so children too are welcome.

There are lots of things happening at Fibre Arts Bootcamp over the coming weeks and months, but I will explain more about those in a subsequent post.

……back to digging fencepost holes for me.  Enjoy the gorgeously sunny autumn!
